Autotext for your PC: Texter 0.6

Texter 0.6
http://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacker-code-texter-windows-238306.php

Brought to you by our friends at Lifehacker, Texter is a handy utility that sits in your system tray and provides (for lack of a better term) "autotype" for your PC as you are working, saving you precious keystrokes.

Wha?

In layman's terms, this isn't too different than how many cell phones will automatically use predictive typing for you as you are entering text.

Using Texter

Using Texter is a breeze. You simply open up the program, type in some text in the Hotstring pane, and then enter the replacement text you wish to have Texter use in place of your typed text.

You can specify to have Texter replace text instantly, or after you hit [tab], [space] or [enter].

Bundles

Texter also features an option called 'Bundles'. Basically, this is like a custom dictionary of autotext entries for Texter. You can export these bundles and share them with other Texter users.

To see all the Lifehacker posts about Texter, you can check it out via the 'Texter' tag.

Save your hands!

Curious to know how much good Texter has done for you? Clicking 'preferences'> 'stats' will show you a keystroke counter built in that tells you how many strokes you've saved. Your wrists will thank you later... ;)

Macros/Scripting

One of the most powerful aspects of Texter is the ability to write custom macros which can include things like non-ascii keystrokes (tab/enter/space). In the Lifehacker video, you can see that by entering a small line of text, Texter can parse out an email address from the sender field and create a customized email response.

Just yet another reason to love Lifehacker!

I prefer MCL: http://www.mlin.net/MCL.shtml

@anonymous:

That is more of a launcher tool akin to Launchy or FARR.

This is more of a custom dictionary/autotype tool for commonly typed phrases and words.

Thanks for the link!
