If you've ever needed to do some *ahem* simple CSS editing, getting started from a beginner's level can be troublesome.TopStyle Lite has always been a favorite freebie CSS editor of mine (and I will feature it in the coming weeks), but I came across this little editor the other day, appealing to my "single exe" affinity. What I really liked about it was the friendly interface.
Brought to you by www.hostm.com, Simple CSS Editor lives up to the name: a to-the-point editor that doesn't waste any time with unneeded options, bells/whistles, or heck, an installation wizard! The download consists of a single .exe, and when opened SCSS shows you a small series of tabs and a few menu buttons at the top. Getting started is as easy as adding new elements to your CSS project (or you can bring in your own CSS files).
You can import existing CSS into the editor, as well as export to a file. Adding tag or id css styles is extremely easy, due to the +|- buttons. Pick what you want to add or remove easily.
Below the editor is a preview window that shows you the changes as you make them, similar to TopStyle Lite.
Don't let the simple interface bely the power that is within SCSS...every style has a number of available options to them, so you have a nearly limitless variety of possibilities when designing your CSS! However, (also I must mention I am not a CSS expert)...I wasn't sure what CSS standard Simple CSS supported. I checked the linked help, but the (online only) help was a bit lacking.I noticed today that my preview window wasn't working, so I need to check up on this, but it was yesterday...strange...

- Does not support @rules (not that I use them, but it barked at me when I tried to open a couple Adobe CSS files on my PC). - minor

Not knowing what an @rule is in CSS, let alone how to use one, I was surprised when Simple CSS complained about my hand-crafted CSS file. Turns out I'd added a comment at the top with myemail@mydomain.com.
Otherwise SCSS looks promising and I look forward to playing!
