For those folks out there who like to tweak & play with audio files (wav/aiff/mp3, etc), then this is the program for you.

I've been asked a few times to help people with some audio files, i.e. fading them in/out, delete/bleep/garble out a bad word from a song...or a number of other things. This tool came in handy to help edit some live tracks so I could eliminate the crowd noise at the beginning of a track - not to mention lowering the overall level
One of my hobbies is producing and writing computer music, so I have access to a number of tools, many of which are freeware. Audacity is one of the most useful audio tools I have ever come across.
You can easily save any wav or other supported format file into MP3 (and others). In addition, you can apply a series of filters and effects - and there are quite a few in 1.3.0 not available in 1.2.4.
Mac and Linux versions are available. Product support comes in the form of forums, WIKI, tutorials, as well as a great help file.
I had used CoolEdit Pro back in the day, before Adobe bought Syntrillium software, and this is a very similarly featured tool (although the new version of Adobe's product "Audition" has some very advanced features, but it also features a very advanced price!).
Give it a shot, I promise you will not regret it!

Hi Rob,
I saw your website and I find it vey informative and useful.
I'm writing to you if you as an expert could help me;
I've been recording a life event with my MP3 recorder which because of a bad battery all of a sudden got turned off.
This sudden end in recording infected the file in a way that
there is a recorded file in wav (34 Mb) but the file does not
want to play. I have a feeling like the file isn't properly finished /ended
which makes it unreadable and can not be played.
What do you think?
What would you recomend me to fix this file and be able to play it?
I'd be very grateful for anykind of useful information how to fix
the file so that it could be played..
Thank you very much for your reply!
Best,
Tomas
Hmmm...I've not much experience with damaged wav files, but you can perform a google search to see what comes up.
Here's a tool I found, perhaps it would help?
